TUNGNATH TREK

Tungnath Trek

The Chopta to Tungnath trek is a captivating journey through the heart of the Himalayas that will leave you spellbound. The best time for this trek is during May when the temple opens and the deity of Lord Tungnath is moved from Mukumath. Winter treks, from January to March, promise added excitement with a snowy backdrop. The journey commences from the charming village of Chopta, nestled at 2680 metres. The trek to Tungnath spans approximately 4 kilometres and typically requires 3 to 4 hours to complete. Tungnath Temple, the highest shrine to Lord Shiva globally, is perched atop Chandranath Parvat, marking the division of the Alaknanda and Mandakini Rivers. 

On the trek, in addition to marvelling at the scenery, visitors can visit the sacred temple, indulge in birdwatching, and savour spectacular views of the Himalayas and its flora, featuring snowy meadows and coniferous landscapes. Continue hiking to the top of Chandrashila, also known as the moon rock, for magnificent views of the surrounding peaks, including Nanda Devi and Trishul.
